Biography & Interests

I am a freelance writer and comedian. I am the creator and musical director of a improvised cabaret duo, and have just returned from a full run at the Edinburgh Fringe, where we also headlined at Rachel Parris' Musical Comedy Club to a sold out audience at the Queen Dome. The Evening Standard listed us as one of their top ten shows to see in July.

I love making people laugh, and creating interesting pieces of theatre that will challenge people's preconceptions about often rather difficult subject matters. Outside of performance, I also love reading. My favourite genres are Middle English and Early Modern courtly poetry, manuscript transmission / material texts research, and dystopian fiction (I'm a sucker for some Margaret Atwood).

Experience & Approach

I taught English and Drama at a school in Oxford for a year after graduating, to a wide range of age and ability levels. I took great joy in helping my students from years 5-8 find their own personal interests, and find their own individual styles of learning. Often teaching classes as small as 7 students, I was able to differentiate tasks to the unique needs of each student. Mentoring is about knowing a child as a real person, and building their confidence through a genuine relationship. As a mentor, there is nothing more rewarding or engaging than seeing a child argue something with self-assurance, or grapple with a concept on their own terms.

“Thank you so much for being such an inspirational teacher for Sam – and many other boys besides, it would seem! He absolutely loved your lessons, and is quite disconsolate that you’re leaving, as my other sons who would also have very much liked to be taught by you. You are quite unlike any teacher we have had the pleasure of knowing, and whatever school gets you next is a very lucky one indeed!” Mother of class student, September 2018

“She's great for T. Lively and fun and obviously knows what she is talking about. I've even heard him laugh a few times!!” Mother of A Level Student, October 2018

“Chesca and my son, Willem, met for their first session. He loved working with her. They had lunch afterwards at Pret. He is happy with her typing and is really excited to build an ongoing relationship with her!” Mother of Willem, November 2018
