  • Oxford University: English and French

BIOGRAPHY & INTERESTS

Upon completing my degree in English and French at Oxford, I spent a year working for a research project linked to teen health and HIV medication adherence in South Africa. I am extremely interested in travel and the discovery of foreign cultures. I have always enjoyed immersing myself in French- and Spanish-speaking countries to improve my language skills – travelling in Central America, various homestays in Spain, au pairing in Brussels and then the required year abroad in Paris. I am also very interested in Africa and its recent history, and have volunteered for NGOs in Uganda and South Africa. My other interests include singing, cooking, literature and running.

EXPERIENCE & APPROACH

Specialising in teaching French at all levels, my tutoring experience ranges from secondary school entrance exams to Key Stage Three, GCSE, A-level, Oxbridge interview preparation and tutoring adults in business French. I offer English and French to university level, Spanish to ‘A’ level, and a variety of subjects including Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology to GCSE level. I have worked as an au pair in Brussels, which included extensive English language tuition. I built on and perfected my French language skills during a year spent working in Paris, attaining a high level of fluency. I have also worked in English and International schools as a classroom assistant. I fully endorse Oppidan’s emphasis on mentorship and fun – ensuring the pupil enjoys themselves to increase their intrinsic motivation to learn. My skills lie in breaking down challenging material into more manageable and enjoyable exercises, and treating the pupil as an equal rather than as a child.
