Biography & Interests

I have recently graduated from Oxford University, Somerville College where I studied English Literature and Language and received a First Class Honours, finishing in the top 8% of my class. Following my performance in my first year exams (first class) I was awarded a full academic scholarship at my college, where I am an ambassador for the Margaret Thatcher scholarship program. Outside of my studies I am a trained classical singer. I love singing and performing regularly in my Acapella group, The Oxford Belles, with whom we released a viral music video last year for charity. I am now studying towards qualifying as a solicitor with Allen & Overy, at BPP London.

Experience & Approach

I believe that the biggest benefit of mentoring is to remove the anxiety or nervousness associated with learning – the fear of speaking in front of your peers, and the fear of making mistakes. I centre my approach on building trust with my students to ensure that they feel comfortable with me, and therefore with the subject. This environment is the most conducive to success, allowing me to understand their areas of strength or difficulty.

"Kate has motivated Emma and Emma seems to understand more maths. All good!" Mother of 13-year-old, May 2018

"Kate is wonderful!" Mother of 13-year-old, June 2018

"I am really happy with Kate's support of my daughter in her Maths. Her friendliness and ability to see the problems from Eliza’s point of view and thus identify the stumbling blocks is really effective. We have some way to go before Eliza is comfortable with Maths, but I no longer hear her saying “it’s no good, I shall never be able to do this.” Kate has helped her see that she can." “Kate has been a great teacher. Melody is always looking forward to her lessons and really enjoying learning with her.” Mother of 9-year-old, July 2018
