  • Shrewsbury School: A-Levels - English A*, French A, History A (Academic and Art Scholar)

Educated at Shrewsbury School and Trinity College, Oxford, I graduated in June with a 2:1 in English Literature. Having always had a passion for architecture and painting, I am currently writing and illustrating a book about British ‘follies’ to be published in 2020. In my free time I also enjoy writing comedy sketches and cross-country running.

Teaching predominately English, History, and French, I have a broad range of tutoring and mentoring experience ranging from basic English with under 10’s, to CE French, University applications and more general cultural inquiry. For me, whether it’s a half-term blast or longer-term engagement, the key to good mentoring is in forming a solid relationship with my students. From here, the task is simple: work out the problem and find engaging ways to tackle it. For some students, this simply means making the subject come alive in a way that the classroom can’t: visiting galleries, telling stories, or even impersonating items of French vocabulary; whilst for others, it’s getting past a block by building a memorable framework: be it grammatical, chronological, or analytical. To me, there’s absolutely no reason why learning can’t be fascinating and fun for everyone, it’s simply about finding that click.
