Through working with children, mentors at Oppidan are offered a pipeline to future careers, with the chance to help themselves and those in their charge. Whatever you choose to do in life, working with children is a catalyst to a fulfilling career. Our mentors are self-starters, empathetic, creative and with a deep interest in the development of young people.

Becoming a mentor
Increasingly we curate a small team of mentors, with a mix of self-employed and full-time salaried mentors. Applying to work at Oppidan is competitive, with a detailed application process. Application windows open 2-3 times a year.

Freelance mentors
The majority of our mentor team balance Oppidan work with other part-time or full-time work. At present we have around 150 freelance mentors. Typically in their 20s and 30s, mentors come from diverse professional fields, working 5-70 hours each month with Oppidan families.
Benefits to becoming a freelance mentor include:

Hourly rates of ÂŁ45-60

Professional mentors
Though some of our mentors remain self-employed, we are gradually moving to an employment model of full-time, salaried mentors. Salaried roles will be made clear on this page with the opportunity to apply.
Benefits to becoming a professional mentor include:
Guaranteed hours
Guaranteed fixed monthly income (ÂŁ17,500 - ÂŁ35,000 pa)

Office roles
As and when full-time roles are available with Oppidan, we make those clear on this page. Many of our full-time team have come through the ranks as mentors; it’s the best way for us to know our team and to trust their vocational ambition to support young people.
