Programme 

Over the 2022/23 academic year, Oppidan mentors provided training sessions to a group of over 20 Y11 and Y13 pupils. The training took place over a series of workshops spread across two days. Each mentor was paired with two KS3 mentees, with two-to-one peer mentoring sessions beginning in the Autumn term and taking place throughout the Spring and Summer terms. 

Outcomes

  • Communication skills

    • Mentors demonstrated a 14% increase in speaking clearly to individuals or small groups they do not know. Mentors showed a remarkable 22% improvement in using eye contact and body language for attentive listening.

  • Self-awareness and emotional intelligence

    • Mentors experienced a notable 21% increase in understanding their own emotions. Mentees exhibited a significant 23% increase in understanding their own emotions.

  • Leadership skills

    • Mentors reported a remarkable 39% increase in supporting others, showcasing their growth in guiding, advising, and empowering their mentees. 10% more mentors reported managing disagreements to reach shared solutions, indicating enhanced conflict resolution and collaborative skills.

  • Empathy and understanding of others

    • Mentees showed a significant 35% increase in their ability to understand the feelings of others. There was a 29% increase in mentees' awareness of their friends' feelings.

  •  Positive attitude and academic expectations

    • Mentees reported a 31% increase in having a positive attitude towards themselves. Mentees exhibited a remarkable 50% increase in their expectation to do well at school
