The School Run
What is The School Run?
The School Run is a 200-mile charity run from Devon to London, raising Β£50,000 each for Magic Breakfast and the Oppidan Foundation. Organised and run by the Oppidan Education team, the route starts from our furthest partner school in Devon and ends three days later at Oppidan HQ in Hammersmith, West London.
This challenge brings together our passion for education and our belief that all children deserve the best start to their day and the right support throughout it.
Who are our Charity Partners?
The Oppidan Foundation
The Oppidan Foundation manages and grants funds to support state-funded UK schools with mentoring programmes. They support schools that are interested in promoting character development in their students.
The Foundation helps bring Oppidan's mentoring approach to state schools, helping children build confidence and develop important life skills alongside their school work. They believe every child should have access to good mentoring, regardless of their background.
Magic Breakfast
Magic Breakfast makes a difference to over 300,000 children and young people every day by offering breakfasts and expert advice to tackle morning hunger in schools across England and Scotland. We exist to ensure no child or young person is too hungry to learn.
Magic Breakfast works with over 1,000 schools, providing healthy food like porridge, bagels, cereal and juice. Their research shows that children who eat breakfast at school can make 2-3 months of extra progress in their learning each year.
What is the route?
Runners from the Oppidan team will run in relay over three days, starting at our furthest partner school and ending up at Oppidan HQ, three days later.
The route will take us across the whole of southern England from the coastal paths of Dorset to the winding lanes of Wiltshire, all the way along the Thames to the Oppidan HQ by the famous Hammersmith Bridge.
It will involve the full Oppidan team across the course and feature hard miles, ups and downs, and plenty of bananas!
Why are we doing this?
Oppidan Education runs mentoring programmes around the world, but we want to do more, especially for students in underserved settings.
Working with Magic Breakfast allows us to combine two areas of critical educational need, providing students with the right start to the day and the right mentor to guide them all the way through it.
We believe that children learn better when they've had breakfast and when they have someone to support and believe in them. This run is our way of helping more children get both.
Here is a recent film we made explaining the work of Oppidan Foundation funded programmes with E-ACT:
