In the summer of 2016, Oppidan put on their first outdoor summer camp for prep school children combining academics and sport. The feedback was universally positive and the EduCamp was born. Since then, Oppidan has expanded the concept to run summer camps for children aged 8-13 throughout the summer in the UK and abroad.
Oppidan’s EduCamps are a demonstration in action of the ethos that we promote through our one-on-one mentoring. It is a vindication of the success and value in the teaching of the soft skills that are the most important values for children to learn as they grow up.
Traditional summer camps focus on academics, sports or arts but infrequently combine all of them. Within the context of an increased focus by schools to move away from the rigours of prescriptive learning, Oppidan’s EduCamp incorporates a 5-day program of super-curricular academics, outdoor sports, practical skills, team games, cooking and camping within small groups of 15-20 children. Children on the EduCamp are treated like adults and have the chance to try their hand at a host of new skills, make new friends and come away, we hope, with a increased sense of confidence and perspective about their learning.
Our staple - these are for children aged 8-13, run at our own venue for 5 days, Monday to Friday, throughout July and August.
Our approach to camps for international students incorporates a greater focus on English language, history and culture, as well as the practical skills and the sports associated with the UK EduCamp.
These happen throughout the summer term, hosting school groups for end-of-year and leavers’ trips.
These are hosted at parents’ houses, in which the parents are able to choose the guests and specify the content of the camp that they would like.
WHY CHOOSE THE EDUCAMP?
The EduCamp is designed to encourage a broad range of skills and increase confidence. With school pre-tests and transitions on the horizon for the majority of our students, a camp with us offers them the chance to plan, communicate and project, as well as building upon the core skills they already know from school. Our ‘Invisible Learning’ angle aims, above all, to give our students a great time. While learning, children enjoy themselves, meet new people and return to school with renewed energy for their studies.
